Hiroshima and Miyajima in one day

A bilingual guide takes up to 30 people from Hiroshima Station to Miyajima's shrine and floating torii in the morning, then back to the Peace Park for the afternoon. Pick it if you want both halves of the classic day with the ferry, the shrine ticket and the transfers sorted, and you don't mind hearing every explanation twice, in English and Spanish.

Hiroshima and Miyajima Day Trip with Ferry

About this experience

Amigo Tours runs this day for Spanish and English speakers together, which is why the guide switches language every few sentences. The full-day option starts at the Shinkansenguchi bus berth on the north side of Hiroshima Station, between bus stops 8 and 9. A coach takes the group about 50 minutes to Miyajimaguchi, everyone crosses on the ferry, and you get roughly three hours on the island: the guide walks you past the deer to Itsukushima Shrine (ticket paid), then lets you loose on Omotesando for lunch. Back on the mainland the coach heads to the Peace Memorial Park for about three hours before the 40-minute ride back to the station.

Read the price carefully. The $45 from-price is the Only Miyajima option: about 3.5 hours, starting at Hiroden-Miyajimaguchi tram station, so you get yourself out there first (the JR train takes 25 to 30 minutes for 420 yen, the Hiroden tram about 70 minutes for 240 yen). The full 8-hour day with Hiroshima runs about $119 per adult. That still undercuts the JTB coach tour at $162, but JTB pays the museum and the visitor tax, and its guide speaks only English.

Two caveats from the reviews. The bilingual format: several 3-star guests found the back-and-forth tiring, and one asked for an English-only group. And the Peace Memorial Museum isn't on the inclusions list, so budget 200 yen for the ticket, and know that guests report around 45 minutes inside. That's short for a museum most people find overwhelming. If the museum is your priority, a private licensed guide lets you stay as long as you need.

  • Both halves of the classic day: Miyajima in the morning, the Peace Park in the afternoon
  • Ferry ticket and Itsukushima Shrine entry (300 yen) included
  • About three hours on the island, with free time for lunch on Omotesando
  • Coach from Hiroshima Station, no train changes to work out
  • A Miyajima-only option from $45 if you have already seen Hiroshima

What guests say

★★★★★

Very well managed by Alan our guide, despite big Golden Week crowds. Excellent seamless translation between English and Spanish by him. [...] The amount of time allocated during the day between the 2 locations was well planned and made for an informative, fun, and satisfying day with easy transport!!

My family unfortunately only had time to see Miyajima but we do not regret it for a second. Our guide had a deep knowledge of every aspect of the temple, its surroundings, and any other detail we had questions about.

Tips before you book

  • Find the bus berth the day before. Take the North (Shinkansen) Exit, go down the stairs and look between bus stops 8 and 9. One guest missed the whole tour because the meeting point was hard to find.
  • Bring cash. The operator warns that some places don't take cards, and the museum ticket and lunch come out of your pocket.
  • Stay near the guide. Guests say it's hard to hear at the back of a 30-person group, and there are no earpieces.
  • Check the tide before you pick a date: the torii only looks like it floats when the water is above about 250 cm. Our tide guide shows how to read the table.
  • Booked Only Miyajima from central Hiroshima? Allow about 70 minutes on Hiroden tram line 2, or take the JR train to Miyajimaguchi and walk a few minutes to the tram station.

Frequently asked questions

Is the $45 Hiroshima and Miyajima tour the full day?

No. $45 is the Only Miyajima option: about 3.5 hours on the island, meeting at Hiroden-Miyajimaguchi station. The full 8-hour day with the Peace Park costs about $119 per adult. Pick the option on the booking page before you pay.

Is the guide English or Spanish?

Both. One guide explains everything in English and Spanish, taking turns. Many guests like it; some found it slow or hard to follow. For English only, look at the JTB coach tour or a private guide.

What do I still pay on the day?

Lunch, drinks, the Peace Memorial Museum ticket (200 yen) and keep 100 yen for the visitor tax, which the listing doesn't mention. The ferry and the 300-yen shrine ticket are covered. On Only Miyajima, add your train or tram fare to Miyajimaguchi.

Can children join the Amigo Tours day trip?

Yes. Children aged 3 to 11 pay a child rate, infants up to 2 book as infants and anyone 12 or over pays as an adult. The day isn't wheelchair-friendly, and the museum has graphic exhibits.
