JTB Hiroshima and Miyajima by Bullet Train from Osaka

About this experience

This is the same day as JTB's Hiroshima coach tour, with the bullet train added. You meet JTB staff near the elevator hall on the ground floor of Hotel Granvia Osaka, at JR Osaka Station; they take you by local train to Shin-Osaka and see you onto the shinkansen. Nobody rides with you. The trip takes about 1 hour 20 minutes, and the National Government Licensed guide waits at Hiroshima Station.

Miyajima comes first: coach to Miyajimaguchi, the JR ferry (on the Otorii route past the torii when weather and tide allow), an hour at Itsukushima Shrine with the guide and an hour for lunch on your own. Then the Peace Park, the A-Bomb Dome and an hour in the Peace Memorial Museum before the train back. An assistant meets you at Shin-Osaka and takes you to Osaka Station. Guests clock about 14 hours door to door.

Is it worth $387? Booked yourself, reserved Nozomi seats cost about 10,400 yen each way, so roughly 21,000 yen return before ferry and entries; with a JR Pass, Hikari and Sakura trains are covered. The premium buys someone else's planning, a licensed guide and reserved seats, and JTB also sells first class and, for 2027 dates, Premium Class. The H.I.S. day covers the same ground for less and includes lunch, but its audio guide stops at the bus door. JTB runs the same tour from Kyoto too ($391), and the two-person minimum applies to both: a date with fewer bookings may be cancelled four days ahead.

  • Reserved shinkansen seats both ways, ordinary or first class
  • Escort from Hotel Granvia Osaka to the platform and back
  • Licensed English-speaking guide in Hiroshima and on Miyajima
  • Visitor tax, ferry, shrine and museum paid
  • JR ferry on the Otorii route, weather permitting

What guests say

★★★★★

Firstly, make sure you are ready for a big day - approx 14hrs. I found the communication from the operator excellent prior to our departure, where to meet and remember, they run on a tight time schedule and you cannot be late.

Well organized. Excellent English speaking guide who gave us great information on all the sights we visited. [...] All the entrance tickets I.e the subway ride, Bullet train ferry, museum etc were all included in this package.

We were always take care of, even with free water to start our journey as it was extremely hot. The first half of our tour was the Miyajima island and floating torii, followed by lunch. Lunch was on our own and you need to move quickly to get a decent spot for lunch but there are many good options.

Amazing experience. Our tour guide Mayumi was excellent. She is a daughter of Atomic bomb survivor and the stories she told us were very moving. Would recommend this tour!!

Tips before you book

  • Be early. The schedule is tied to train times, and guests stress that late arrivals can't join.
  • The meeting point is on the ground floor by the lifts of Hotel Granvia Osaka. A guest who waited in a closed hotel lounge never found the group.
  • Eat fast on Miyajima, or buy an ekiben at Shin-Osaka for the train. Lunch is your free hour on the island.
  • Warn the kids: the museum has graphic photos. A parent thought it could be too much for children.
  • Under 18s need written parental permission; under 15s must travel with a parent or guardian.
