Booking choice: The Hiroshima and Miyajima day trip, from $45 per person. Check dates Tour details
Miyajima tours sold online in 2026 start at $45 and climb to $391. The spread looks wild until you see what each price buys. Some cover the ferry, the shrine and the visitor tax. Some cover lunch and the Peace Memorial Museum too. The dearest ones put you on a bullet train from Osaka or Kyoto. Private guides charge for their time and nothing else.
Below are the from-prices on Viator, checked on 22 October 2026, set against the yen fees you pay on the spot. Dollar prices move a little with the exchange rate. The yen fees don't.

Check dates for the Hiroshima and Miyajima day tripWhy does the cheapest Miyajima tour say $45?
Because $45 is the "Only Miyajima" option of the Amigo Tours listing: 3.5 hours on the island, meeting at Hiroden-Miyajimaguchi. The full 8-hour Hiroshima and Miyajima day costs about $119.
The listing has two options under one title, and the search card shows the lower one. The full day meets at the Shinkansenguchi bus berth on the north side of Hiroshima Station, between bus stops 8 and 9, and adds three hours at the Peace Memorial Park after lunch. The Miyajima-only option starts at Hiroden-Miyajimaguchi, by the ferry piers. You get there yourself: 420 yen on the JR train or 240 yen on the Hiroden tram from central Hiroshima.
Both options include the ferry, the 300-yen shrine ticket and a bilingual guide. The guide switches between English and Spanish all day. Guests who wanted English only mention it in their reviews; pick another tour if that would bother you. Food is never included, and the operator suggests bringing cash, since some stalls and small restaurants don't take cards.

What does a Miyajima tour price include?
Usually the ferry and the shrine ticket. The visitor tax, lunch, the Peace Memorial Museum and the bullet train vary by tour, and private guides include none of them.
The fees a tour may or may not cover, with what each costs if you pay it yourself:
- The ferry: 200 yen each way on JR West Miyajima Ferry or Matsudai Kisen. Covered by Amigo Tours, H.I.S., JTB. MagicalTrip lists it as a 500-yen extra (two fares plus the tax).
- The visitor tax: 100 yen per visit, paid with the ferry ticket since October 2023 (Hatsukaichi City details). JTB names it as included; Japan Guide Agency tells you to bring it in cash.
- Itsukushima Shrine: 300 yen, or 500 yen with the Treasure Hall (shrine admission page). Included on every group tour here and on the 888tour private walk.
- The Peace Memorial Museum: 200 yen. Included by H.I.S. and JTB; the Amigo Tours full day gives you time in the park but lists no museum ticket.
- Lunch: only H.I.S. (Hiroshima okonomiyaki) and MagicalTrip (a set lunch on the island) include it. Budget 1,500 to 3,500 yen elsewhere.
- The bullet train: about 10,950 yen each way between Shin-Osaka and Hiroshima on a reserved Nozomi seat. Included only on the Osaka, Kyoto and Fukuoka plans of H.I.S. and on JTB's bullet-train days.

How do private Miyajima guide prices work?
Japan Guide Agency charges per person on a sliding scale: from $113 for four hours and $200 for eight, cheaper per head in bigger groups. You pay every fare, ticket and the 100-yen tax on top.
The from-price is the lowest tier, so a couple pays more per person than a family of five. Check the total for your group size at checkout before you compare. The guide is a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter, and you move together on foot, by tram, train and ferry: there is no private car.
Read the exclusions. One guest who booked the half day for a 14:00 start found that public transport ate about 1.5 hours each way, leaving little time before the temples closed. Start in the morning, and if you are short on time, pick a guide who meets you on the island. 888tour does that for $102 per person, with the shrine ticket included and its guide waiting at the Miyajima ferry terminal with an "888" sign.

Your own licensed guide for eight hours, Peace Park and Miyajima on your terms. The per-person price falls as your group grows.
Explore a private day with a licensed guide Tour detailsHow much is a Miyajima tour from Osaka or Kyoto?
About $283 from Osaka with H.I.S. (coach, lunch and shinkansen included) and $387 with JTB from Osaka or $391 from Kyoto (licensed guide, reserved seats, no lunch).
The H.I.S. listing shows $116 because that is its From Hiroshima plan, which excludes the shinkansen. The same tour from Osaka cost about $283 on partner listings in October 2026; the Kyoto and Fukuoka plans also add round-trip bullet train tickets. Each city comes in an English version and a Multilingual version with an audio guide that works on the bus only. One guest reports paying 3,000 yen extra for a Polish audio guide and finding it silent once off the bus.
JTB costs about $100 more than H.I.S. from Osaka. For that you get an assistant who walks you from Hotel Granvia Osaka to the platform, a licensed guide who meets the train in Hiroshima, and every fee including the visitor tax. Lunch is on you. Our Osaka and Kyoto day trip guide sets both against doing it yourself.

How much does it cost to visit Miyajima on your own?
About 1,640 yen from Hiroshima Station for the train, the ferry both ways, the visitor tax and the shrine. Add 2,000 yen for the Mt Misen ropeway and whatever lunch costs.
The DIY budget, per adult, in 2026 prices:
| Item | Yen | Note |
|---|---|---|
| JR Sanyo line, Hiroshima to Miyajimaguchi and back | 840 | 420 each way, about 25 to 30 minutes; covered by the JR Pass |
| Ferry, both ways | 400 | 200 each way; JR ferry covered by the JR Pass |
| Miyajima visitor tax | 100 | Paid with the outbound ferry ticket |
| Itsukushima Shrine | 300 | 500 with the Treasure Hall |
| Basic total | 1,640 | About 1,120 if you take the Hiroden tram instead (240 each way, 70 to 75 minutes) |
| Mt Misen ropeway, round trip | 2,000 | 1,100 one way; free if you hike |
| Peace Memorial Museum | 200 | If you add Hiroshima |
| Lunch on Omotesando | 1,500 to 3,500 | Oysters, anago-meshi, okonomiyaki |
Tram fares are on Hiroden's fare page. The fast Aqua Net boat from the Peace Park is the scenic splurge: 2,400 yen one way or 4,400 return, plus the 100-yen tax (Aqua Net fares). Our DIY or guided guide covers the logistics step by step.
Which Miyajima tour is the best value?
For Miyajima alone, the MagicalTrip walk at $105: 5.5 hours, lunch and every entry included, groups of seven or fewer. For Hiroshima and Miyajima in one day, the Amigo Tours full day at about $119.
We weigh value by what you would otherwise pay and plan yourself. The MagicalTrip walk covers the shrine, Daisho-in, Momijidani and Senjokaku with a set lunch at an inn; you only pay the 500-yen ferry. One guest put it plainly: "There were so many things included in the price. The lunch was at an inn in a beautiful natural setting."
For a full day, Amigo Tours is cheapest, but the guide splits time between two languages. JTB at $162 pays every fee including the tax and the museum, with a licensed guide; guests mention free time of a couple of hours on the island. H.I.S. from Hiroshima at $116 throws in lunch and the museum, which makes it the cheapest all-in day if you don't mind a coach group.

Five and a half hours on foot with a certified guide, lunch at an inn and every entry ticket. Only the 500-yen ferry is extra.

The Mt Misen ropeway (2,000 yen return), the Treasure Hall (200 yen more on a combined ticket), the night cruise (2,000 yen, cash) and lunch. Keep coins for the visitor tax.
- Mt Misen: no tour on this site includes ropeway tickets. See the Mt Misen guide.
- The night cruise: Aqua Net's boat through the lit torii costs 2,000 yen per adult, cash only, booked at least two hours ahead (Aqua Net night cruise).
- Senjokaku: the big wooden hall above the shrine charges 100 yen.
- Lockers: at JR Miyajimaguchi and the island terminal, if you arrive with bags.
- Tips: not expected in Japan. A named review helps a guide more.
- Visitor tax: the JR Pass covers the JR ferry, not the 100-yen tax. Pay it at the machine in the terminal. More in the visitor tax post.
A full day with the fees, the tax, the museum and a licensed guide all paid. You only buy lunch.
Check dates for the JTB Peace Park and Miyajima tourFrequently asked questions
Is the $45 Miyajima tour a full day?
No. $45 is the 3.5-hour Only Miyajima option, meeting at Hiroden-Miyajimaguchi. The full Hiroshima and Miyajima day on the same listing is about $119 per adult.
Do Miyajima tours include the visitor tax?
JTB's tours list it as included. Japan Guide Agency tells you to bring 100 yen in cash, and MagicalTrip's 500-yen ferry charge covers two fares plus the tax. Amigo Tours and H.I.S. include the ferry ticket; ask whether the tax is in it and keep 100 yen handy.
Is a Miyajima tour worth the money?
If you want the history explained, the tide timed and the Peace Park story told, yes. If you only want photos of the torii, the train and ferry cost about 1,640 yen and the island is easy to walk.
Do children pay less?
Yes on most tours: the group tours have child rates from age 3 or 6, and JTB lets children up to 5 join free without a seat. The ferry is 100 yen for children and the shrine 100 yen for elementary and junior high pupils.
